As the mornings get colder and it's naturally harder to get out of bed, the thought of sleeping in, breakfast in bed or a late morning brunch seems to be the perfect way to gently roll into another cold winters day. Alas, there are school drop offs to attend to, early morning busses to catch and some mornings where the closest thing you will get to breakfast in bed is a cold cup of tea sculled as you run out the door.

One thing we can make sure of in our hectic lives is that when the weekend comes, or once you are home from the busy morning drop offs, you enjoy the time and thought serving up a perfect brunch. Whether it involves a full cooked breakfast or just some homemade muffins with a cup of piping hot tea, it's great to take the time to make it special.

Consider serving your breakfast/brunch in this beautiful collection of crockery from English potter Emma Bridgewater. The cream ceramic with black writing always reminds me of a county brunch. With side plates reading 'crumbs crumbs crumbs' and serving plates with the writing 'bubble and squeak' this simple design just seems to make the food served on it somehow taste that little bit more delicious.

To continue with a country kitchen feel, decorating with raw timbers mixed with black and cream is a great way to bring a little country charm to your home. Give your rattan placemats a new life, from a tropical feel through summer to a country mood in winter, mixing it with a different dinnerset or napery will make it feel new and full of life again. Once you have added your country charm to the brunch table or your newly decorated kitchen, the hardest thing will be deciding what you want to cook.
