A rustic turquoise cabinet.

Who doesn't love a good yarn or story about the 'olden days'? Often these stories are shared with us by our parents and grandparents, always filled with emotive language with the storytellers face lighting up at their clearest and most memorable moments. Maybe this is why I love mixing vintage furniture in with the cleaner lines of new furniture...it tells a story.

At Alfresco Emporium, we currently have some beautiful pieces of furniture which have been carefully sourced in India. The layers of turquoise, cream and emerald green paint which have been applied over the years, makes me wonder what the story is of that piece of furniture. Who's clothes were once stored in the cupboard? What plates and kitchen crockery did the buffet once house? Many of the pieces are old original cupboards. The hardware and handles are rustic and old, filled with charm and interest.

Peeling paint around metal cabinet pulls.

We also stock some reproductions, which look fabulous in a casual beach house or country property. Some of the smaller pieces can be the talking point in a children's room and a few of the reproductions have been designed to be used as modern day entertainment units. Either way, this furniture is practical and charming and will be a 'story piece' in your home.
